Hi, I’m Steven Pate, a software engineer from Houston, Texas. I created LAAC Technology to brand my technology projects including products, open source, presentations, and my blog.

I have a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M and a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Houston. Why do I have two bachelor’s degrees? I thought politics would be my career until I started working in politics. I’ve always been enamored with computers, and computer science seemed like the right transition. I love programming and feel lucky to have found my calling. Python is the first programming language that I fell in love with and has become my language of choice. I consider myself a full stack engineer but avoid JavaScript whenever possible. I’ve heard TypeScript is nice.

I grew up in Houston, Texas and love it even though it’s ugly. Houston has a great food scene, and I love trying new cuisine. I really like pumpkin flavored stuff, especially pumpkin stout beer. My wife thinks I’m basic, but I think it’s just good taste. I play a little guitar, mostly major chords. I listen to all music, but I really love progressive metal, especially Periphery, Between the Buried and Me, Animals as Leaders, and Protest the Hero. I had a mohawk in my younger years. Houston gets really hot, and I like to hang out by the pool. I unofficially broke the longest distance tiddlywinked in 24 hours world record but lost it due to a technicality.
